The volcano's English name is taken from an American General, General Frank Parker, who spotted the mountain and claimed to have "discovered" it during a flight he piloted in 1934.Historical accounts revealed Mt. Parker erupted three times over the past 3,800 years. The last explosion was on January 4, 1641 where it created the formation of the crater lake.On September 6, 1995, local officials reported what they believed was volcanic activity at Lake Maughan.

The alleged activity caused landslides and floodings along Ga-o River which drains Lake Maughan and joins Allah River in the north. Due to this phenomenon, the government installed monitoring equipment which established that the so-called activity was man-made.The local tourism office reported they have frequent trekkers, both foreigners and locals, due to the majestic view of the lake, one of the tourist destinations in the south.

There are some trails going to the lake but there is a famous trail called by the locals as the highway. The trekking adventure is not going to be a smooth trekking. You should expect the skin itching grass. Some may wound you if you are not careful enough.Because the trekking is not going to be easy and the trail is somewhat undesirable by those who are not adventurous enough, consider some preparations.

The lake has recently been recommended by tourism stakeholders in the South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat, the Allah Valley region, to be included as a Special Interest Eco-adventure destination under the Eco-cultural Tourism Program of Allah Valley Landscape Development Alliance. Meaning, strategies are being discussed to enhance management of the mountain and the lake as a destination notwithstanding its protection and conservation.
